Households in Vienna could face higher municipal fees from January 2027, with the cost of water, sewer services and waste collection expected to increase by 4.6 percent.
Vienna Fees Expected to Increase by 4.6 Percent
A new adjustment to municipal fees is currently being prepared for Viennese households. Based on the current outlook, charges for drinking water, sewage and waste collection could all rise by 4.6 percent from January 2027.
The planned increase is linked to Vienna’s legally established fee adjustment mechanism. According to a report by Kurier, inflation since the last adjustment on January 1, 2025, has now exceeded the threshold required to trigger another increase.

Drinking Water to Cost €2.37 per Cubic Meter
For drinking water, the increase would amount to 10 cents per cubic meter. The price for 1,000 liters of tap water would therefore rise from the current €2.27 to €2.37.
Higher charges are also expected for sewer services and waste collection, although the exact amounts have not yet been finalized.

Final Tariffs Have Not Yet Been Approved
Vienna City Hall has not officially announced the new tariffs. The office of Finance City Councillor Barbara Novak has pointed out that the final inflation figures are not yet available.
According to the report, the planned adjustment is based on the Consumer Price Index. Preliminary figures show that the index rose by 4.6 percent through June 2026.

Parking Fees to Remain Unchanged for Now
There is currently no further increase planned for parking fees. Parking ticket prices were already raised in 2026, meaning the current rate of €3.40 per hour is expected to remain unchanged for the time being.
For Viennese households, however, the potential increase in water, sewer and waste charges would mean another noticeable rise in the cost of essential municipal services from 2027.
